  • Today's Forecast
The monsoon is on a bit of a break this weekend as high pressure moves across Arizona. Northwesterly flow is drying out the middle and upper levels of the atmosphere, although the surface is still pretty humid. Nonetheless, this drier air will suppress thunderstorm activity for the most part, with only isolated storms from Flagstaff and to the southeast across the White Mountains Saturday and Sunday. A sinking air mass from high pressure over Arizona will also allow temperatures to heat up to around 110 in the Valley by Sunday. Next Tuesday, high pressure shifts to New Mexico. This will open the door for a Gulf surge to stream into Arizona again and the monsoon to ramp up with more thunderstorms. Storm chances return to the Valley forecast Tuesday and remain through the rest of the week. Valley highs will steadily decrease Tuesday through Friday. In Phoenix, look for mostly sunny skies and a high of 106 Saturday, with a low of 86 under mostly clear skies tonight. Sunday will be sunny with a high of 110. Sunshine returns Monday with a high of 108. There's a 20 percent chance of storms Tuesday with a high of 106.
